News from Norwegian Cruise Lines
Norwegian Cruise Lines is first among the major cruise companies to offer cabins dedicated to the single traveler when on the new Norwegian Epic.
With a capacity of 4,100 passengers, the Epic, largest ship in the NCL fleet, devotes 128 cabins over two decks to single travelers.
The studio cabins were originally going to be offered as small, affordable rooms for two, but they are being priced for solo travelers. Some cabins are connected so that friends or groups traveling together can enjoy their own accommodations. See David Molyneaux's article on NCL's new studio cabins on TheTravelMavens.com
The cabins are 100 square feet in size, as compared with 150-180 square feet for most cabins on new cruise ships, but contain amenities you would find in a regular-sized cabin. Passengers in studios will have a key to a common area known as the Open Studio Lounge, designed as a social place for those in solo cabins.
The rooms are priced at $799 per person for a seven-night cruise, which may fluctuate. A few cruise lines have offered special single rates, but none to the extent available on the Norwegian Epic.
Epic's entertainment will include the Blue Man Group, Legends in Concert and the Second City improv comedy group. It also has Howl at the Moon, a rock 'n' roll duel piano show that engages the audience. Tickets for the inaugural Caribbean season are on sale.
Other areas of this ship are detailed at ncl.com or epic.ncl.com.
Norwegian Cruise Lines also has announced a new three-year partnership with Nickelodeon, a major U.S. children's television channel. Certain Norwegian ships will feature Nickelodeon-themed family entertainment and programming year-round. It starts in April on Norwegian Jewel and this summer on Norwegian Epic. The partnership also includes Nickelodeon-themed cruises featuring Nickelodeon TV stars.
